True. But back then they made money on advertising. Now we’re funding them directly.

I have no love for big corps, but they’re likely just reading the writing on the wall. they have to deal with retribution for the next 4-12 years and they have no interest becoming the rebels. I’m kinda impressed they stepped away at all other than it probably was money spent for nothing.

IBM supported the Nazis, and if they’re the only tech giant not fighting musk they’re going to get the kickbacks. Corps dont do “writing on the wall” anymore, they chase money, which may look similar but the goals are different.

Did anyone read the article? Besides the top 2, these amounts are paltry:

Data by MediaRadar showed that Comcast, which spent less than $1.5 million on X this year, was followed by Warner Bros. Discovery at $1.1 million, whose ads are supporting theatrical releases of movies, and Disney at under $550,000. Lionsgate spent less than $230,000, while IBM allocated under $2,000.

    That’s embarrassing.

They don’t care where the money comes from, and at this point they know there’s no cost to their reputation for doing shit like this either.

Doesn’t matter. They’re not doing it to get people to see their ads, they’re doing it to bribe Elon since he has actual political power now. Kind of like how oil companies buy ads on news media, even though you don’t need to be persuaded to buy oil - it’s to buy favorable coverage.

My electrical utility (PG&E) advertises all the time. Like what am I gonna do, not buy electricity? It’s so obviously just a bribe to the media companies.

lol they already won that political chess. You still have to pay a connection fee and a transmission fee and a lawsuit settlement fee and an environmental remediation fee, even if you use 0 kW/h. Also with the NEM 3 plan if you have any excess solar generation you give it to them at about 1/10th the price that they will sell to you during the same time of day.

Edit: I exaggerated unfairly, it’s like 1/8th the price. Also for the people who adopted solar early and were promised a 25 year contract (called NEM 2) they can now magically alter the deal and change the way that credits are calculated despite the 25-year guarantee that was made.

Edit 2: did you know our governor is a large shareholder of stock in our utility company? The same one that has the power to appoint people to the board that is supposed to regulate the “private” utility? America is doing great.

I dropped Xitter as soon as it became apparent that Elon was going to buy it and started pirating Disney (and everyone else) shortly after. Couldn’t tell you the last time I bought anything IBM but I’ll have to be more careful about it. I’m switching to a local fiber provider so I’m leaving comcast in a couple of weeks.

…wait, what? You’re pooping so much you’re losing FAT? Like, I’ve heard that sometimes people get backed up, and it’s extra weight. But the weight is still fecies. Elvis was said to have had over 25lbs of backed up fecies inside him when he died.

But you’re saying you’re pooping so much that your body is burning fat??? Thst’s…that equally impressive as it is worrying. How hard are you pushing??? God damn!!!

Not exactly. I’m eating snacks and such that have more dietary fibre and protein, less sugar and such.

Some of the crackers I snack on look like corrugated cardboard. Definitely taste better though.

A big thing has been removing pop and sugary snacks. I make my own trail mix and snack on that a lot, too.

And nobody was surprised. I predict most advertisers will return by the end of January for the same reasons they left previously: It’s the right business decision at the right time. Remember that the next time a corporation makes a pledge. It’s always about money.

I almost can’t blame them. A majority of Americans voted for fascism and racism. These are their customers.

A majority of American citizens who voted…that’s an important distinction. Roughly 29% of voting age american citizens and 22% of all american citizens - a sizeable minority but a minority nonetheless - voted for fascism and racism.

Or saw that both sides probably lead to the same end eventually.

Get out of here with that false equivalency bullshit. Trump’s cabinet picks so far are a Russian propaganda parroter for head of CIA, an anti-vax and raw milk advocate for Health and Human Services, a white supremacist tattooed person for Defense secretary and a suspected pedophile that is having their ethics hearing results blocked for Attorney General.

Do you even think for a hot second that Harris would have make such unqualified and toxic choices for her cabinet?

Eventually, not immediately. Harris would have been vastly more sane, more status quo. But it would’ve been kicking the can…even if Trump lost now, another Trump would run - and win - down the road. At least with Trump the insanity is out in the open. I mean these cabinet picks are insane. It would be funnier if we didn’t have to live with the consequences.

Do you not get that Trump will likely get two more Supreme court appointments? The third branch of our government is locked into conservative hands for the next 30 to 40 years now regardless of who gets elected afterward.
