Musk: (literally shocks you with electricity for using the site)

Twitter leftists/liberals: My followers are here, fediverse is CoMpLiCaTeD, I need to stay here to reach people, there are no good alts, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, I’m staying in protest, I can leave whenever I want…

That if these people really cared about social justice, they would have put their money where their mouths were and left long ago, instead of constantly making excuses and justifying their continued presence there.

I don’t care how they spin it, their activity on x undermines the marginalized people they claim to support. By continuing to post updates and posts there, and nowhere else, they keep their userbase on the site, which contributes to site traffic, which contributes to ad revenue, which contributes to Musk financially, which contributes to politicians, organizations, and causes that wish to peel back rights to workers, racial minorities, women, and queer people.

These are some of the same people that argued continuing to consume Harry Potter, or shopping at Hobby Lobby and Chic-Fil-A were harmful acts. As a queer person, I often agree with their messages, but I am getting so. fucking. tired of the hypocrisy in some of these people. And twitter/X has been the biggest integrity check for me.

And no, they can’t use the system argument that explains why they participate in capitalism despite being anti-capitalists. We all need to interact with capitalism in one way or another to survive. Most people don’t need fucking twitter. Especially when there are so many alternate platforms, and I’m not even talking about just microblogs either.

Fuck they don’t even throw a line to some of the smaller platforms. If they did that at least, people who don’t feel safe using the site, or don’t want to support Musk financially, wouldn’t have to view their content from halfway broken nitter. But nope, no account on any mastodon server, no attempt to establish themselves on bluesky, or hell any regular updates on the threads account they made but never use.

And many of us queer users, these stripping away of protections and features hurt us the most. Many left cause they didn’t feel safe anymore, and that is part of the reason many of us are on fediverse. We see better than anyone who these influencers and content creators actually care about. None of them followed us here. None of them even throw us a bone. We’re are forced to look through a frosted window, or do without, and at this point, I have found myself doing more of the latter.

Either stick to your fucking principles or admit you have an addiction you can’t easily kick. But please for the love of god stop trying to paint your remaining there as righteous or justified.

Lol at how you’re getting downvoted for telling the truth.

All you have to do to defeat Twitter, is stop using it, and stop caring about it. Use literally any other website. Read a book. Learn a hobby. “Get a life”, as we’d say in the 1990’s.

He’s getting downvoted because either he is ignorant or projecting about leftists and liberals. Have you seen Lemmy? There’s a ton of actual socialists and communists here but he’s saying they’d find Lemmy too complicated. Just straight up cognitive dissonance.

He knows that 99 percent of his users, including many of the people in this thread, will bend over and spread their ass cheeks wide in the name of “just use it for sports results” or “the people I follow aren’t on any other sites” or whatever other laughable excuses those junkies use to justify their continued presence on corpo social media sites.

Yeah, because some of the people I follow on Twitter are not on Mastodon. In fact, only like a few people have both. The content is hard to find, most instances don’t let you search

If I want to find crack, I go to the place with crack. In this case it’s actually dopamine. Most activities online are dopamine driven. We’re all addicts and it sucks that the drug dealers are giant assholes.

Except for the nuking of 3rd party apps none of these other changes has affected me personally so the answer to why am I still there is the same why I joined to begin with.

Beats the fuck out of me. I’ve just warned 4 people I know who’re still on it. Two of them I expect will and have switched to alts I’ve suggested them to. One already outright deleted. The last one isn’t concerned because “long as I don’t post my personal info, things are okay!”. It’s like, dude, just being on a platform and knowing what you stand for is going to be exploited by assholes on that platform. Save yourself the headache and just hop off.

Does that last friend not understand that just because you don’t post personal info doesn’t mean it can’t be easily found by crazy people? Like it’s pretty easy to find peoples info even when they use fake names nowadays

I know a couple of people who still insist on staying there. “It’s where I get the news and the fun memes and shit talk”. I presented a mastodon instance focused on brazilian portuguese, but they just “meh” at it.

feels like another churn of the g-forces as twitter circles the train. it could go for awhile, just like that penny at the mall. in the end thats about what it will be worth.

Community Notes jumped on that tweet fast:

If the ability to block users was to be removed, X would be in violation of the policies of the App Store as well as the Google Play Store. Potentially, this could lead to X being removed from these platforms.

Just stop using Twitter. There’s a half-dozen alternatives by now, Jesus Christ.

Take your time and attention somewhere else. Leave.

Twitter has all the content. I want the content. Therefore I’m on Twitter until most of the content moves. In addition, I hate how most of the fediverse social media has no algorithm. The algorithm is how I found most of the content I’m interested in in the first place.

What do you care if people are there or not? I don’t get this mentality of as a non-twitter user urging people to leave the platform.

As a Twitter user only there to participate in NAFO - I advise anyone else to leave the platform for Mastodon or literally any alternative. For you specifically, there’s an entire community on Pixelfed specifically for art posts. Stop giving space Karen engagement numbers.

I’m on pixelfed too but that place is basically empty compared to twitter. I also have by far the biggest following on twitter and even though I in no way profit from that monetarily it’s still much nicer posting your stuff online when there’s actually an audience.

Like I said, to stop giving space Karen’s site your views and engagement. A site that actively and explicitly caters to self-proclaimed Nazis and distributors of CSAM. Directly or indirectly, you are supporting and condoning their behavior by actively engaging with it.

If I hadn’t already deactivated my account this would have been a good time to do it. I had like 135,000 accounts on my block list.
