Alright, trying an ELI5 here.
Big internet platforms like YouTube, Instagram etc. will get new rules in the EU
- Less relevant/targeted ads for minors
- Ads are not allowed to target you based on your gender, ethnicity etc.
- More transparency and more control over which content will get shown to you
- Big internet companies can get sued for the content users upload
- They will implement reporting and delting tools to not get sued
- Maybe we’ll see some upload filters
- Instagram will give you a chronological feed
- TikTok will give you some trending stuff within your region
- EU only

So I can block all the “this changes everything”, “incredible thing you did not know”, “mind blowing details about game x” videos from youtube? When I load Youtube I always scroll down on the main page and click don’t recommend this channel on all videos that have titles like that or thumbnails with arrows, red circles or other crap thumbnails. Don’t care what channel it is.
You can try the Dearrow extension, which uses a random or community-suggested frame from the video as the thumbnail. Made by the same person who made SponsorBlock. It can also use community-suggested titles for videos as well.
Great idea, thanks!
Do you browse your subscribed channels?
Nope, I am mainly subscribed to business channels, like news and other stuff. I don’t really follow youtubers, I think I have around 3-4.
Looking forward to seeing ads for bras… :)
Just kidding. I don’t see ads anyway.
You’ll never get the support you need with that attitude!

I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
You should, this is really bad. These laws are all so backwards. That’s like suing the postal service because of people putting illegal stuff in the mail. Or phone companies for streaming copyrighted material because a song was playing in the background.
Yup. I was up for it until that point. That bullet is a terrible idea.
Eh, there’s more nuance to it than implied in the TLDR
I suspect they just can’t be willfully negligent. Right now Facebook could actively promote a genocide and not see any consequences.
